Every class elects two school representatives every year. This is a real privilege and also such an important role as these children make significant decisions about how the school is run. In recent years, children have made decisions about our behaviour policy, anti-bullying charter and have also helped design our school playground.
Having a school council is vital to showing our commitment to British values which are:
-
democracy;
-
the rule of law;
-
individual liberty;
-
mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.
Our school council are elected but are also the voices for their classmates. Every fortnight, each class has a ‘class council’ where they discuss matters raised at school council meetings and they also have a chance to raise concerns or suggestions to take back to school council meetings. These also happen every two weeks.
At the end of each half term, the school council meet with a member of Senior Leadership Team to discuss ideas. This ensures that every child’s voice is heard across school.
