“As Chair of Governors, I believe we provide our pupils with a safe and nurturing environment, giving pupils the opportunity during their time at CCA to learn and grow as successful individuals ready for the next stage of their education. This forms an important part of our vision for CCA, with pupils who come to school every day, who enjoy school life and contribute positively to our community.

The Governing Body is the strategic leader of a school and has a vital role to play in making sure that every child gets the best possible education. The purpose of having a Governing Body is to:

  • Help the school to set high standards by planning for the school’s future and setting targets for school improvement
  • Keep the pressure up on school improvement
  • Be a critical friend to the school, offering support and advice.  Governors are often said to be ambassadors of the school
  • Help the school respond to the needs of parents and the community
  • Make the school accountable to the public for what it does
  • Work with the school on planning, developing policies and keeping the school under review
  • Exercise its responsibilities and powers in partnership with the headteacher and staff
  • Not intervene in day to day management of the school unless there are weaknesses in the school, when it has a duty to take action

The Governing Body will therefore be involved in:

  • Developing the strategic plan for the school
  • Determining the aims, policies and priorities of the school
  • Monitoring and evaluating the work of the school
  • Ensuring the management of the budget
  • Ensuring the health and safety of the pupils
  • Acting within the framework of the policies of the Governing Body and legal requirements
  • Fostering links with parents and the community

All Academy Boards of Trustees have additional functions and responsibilities.
